Sources and seasonality of long-chain diols in a temperate lake (Lake Geneva)

چکیده
• 1,13- and 1,15-diols are seasonally produced during water-column stratification. likely by several species of eustigmatophytes. Diatoms unlikely to be 1,14-diol producers in Lake Geneva. Long-chain diols (LCDs) lipids commonly found freshwater environments. They lake waters low water-flow regions rivers but their sources the controls on abundance poorly constrained. To able use LCD as environmental proxy (e.g. for reconstructing temperature a indicator marine systems) we need understand these LCDs processes controlling distribution. Therefore, performed seasonal study suspended particulate matter Geneva, temperate at border France Switzerland 2017–2018. were most abundant surface water from late spring early autumn, coinciding with thermal stratification column. Their distribution varied throughout year, which points towards multiple producers. Incubation 13 C-labelled bicarbonate only showed uptake inorganic carbon peak abundance. An 18S rRNA gene amplicon analysis revealed that eustigmatophytes, known LCDs, present Geneva show same trend indicating algae important this lake. In combination previous studies our results suggest potential trace changes stratification, validate C 32 1,15-diol input lakes sediments.

Influence of Long-Distance Climate Teleconnection on Seasonality of Water Temperature in the World's Largest Lake - Lake Baikal, Siberia
Large-scale climate change is superimposed on interacting patterns of climate variability that fluctuate on numerous temporal and spatial scales--elements of which, such as seasonal timing, may have important impacts on local and regional ecosystem forcing. Lake Baikal in Siberia is not only the world's largest and most biologically diverse lake, but it has exceptionally strong seasonal structu...
متن کاملWater column anammox and denitrification in a temperate permanently stratified lake (Lake Rassnitzer, Germany).
We studied microbial N(2) production via anammox and denitrification in the anoxic water column of a restored mining pit lake in Germany over an annual cycle. We obtained high-resolution hydrochemical profiles using a continuous pumping sampler. Lake Rassnitzer is permanently stratified at ca. 29m depth, entraining anoxic water below a saline density gradient. Mixed-layer nitrate concentrations...

متن کاملMetabolic and physiochemical responses to a whole-lake experimental increase in dissolved organic carbon in a north-temperate lake
Over the last several decades, many lakes globally have increased in dissolved organic carbon (DOC), calling into question how lake functions may respond to increasing DOC. Unfortunately, our basis for making predictions is limited to spatial surveys, modeling, and laboratory experiments, which may not accurately capture important whole-ecosystem processes. In this article, we present data on m...
متن کاملCharacterization of fecal indicator bacteria in sediments cores from the largest freshwater lake of Western Europe (Lake Geneva, Switzerland).
This study characterized the fecal indicator bacteria (FIB), including Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Enteroccocus (ENT), disseminated over time in the Bay of Vidy, which is the most contaminated area of Lake Geneva. Sediments were collected from a site located at ∼500 m from the present waste water treatment plant (WWTP) outlet pipe, in front of the former WWTP outlet pipe, which was located a...
